NEST’s vision is to provide a fair chance to all children for quality education. However, NEST cannot provide education opportunities for all children in Nepal with its limited resources. Therefore, it is targeting its programmes at the most disadvantaged groups of children- girls and children with disabilities and children from economically poor families. Among them, the children with disabilities suffer from multiple discriminations in education and beyond. Only 20% of children with disabilities have access to basic education and access to higher education is limited. Therefore, NEST has started to support the children and youths with disabilities to help them live their life with dignity and explore their full potential by providing them micro-credit to learn vocational skills and assist them in their higher education. We believe that these young people can be role models for many children with disabilities.
Case studies of students who have received micro-credits:
Pabitra Thing is 26 years old. She lives in a village near to Hetauda Municipality. She wants to become a professional teacher therefore; she is doing Bachelors in education in a college in Hetauda. But she is worried if her dream to become a teacher will be fulfilled as her parents’ economic condition is not very good. She has many dreams and one of them is to stop girl trafficking. Every year, many girls from her village are trafficked to India, some end up working in Indian Brothel and others work in Circus. She wants to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in her community and wants to serve in the local school. She is physically challenged as she lost her left leg because of cancer. But she is committed to struggle in life and become an example for many girls in her community who do not complete primary education.
Shanti Maya Muktan is 24 years and comes from a village near to Hetauda Municipality. She wants to be a teacher. She is currently studying Intermediate level in education. Because of her parents’ poor financial conditions, she is worried if she could finish her study. She has got two artificial legs. She wants to run a tailoring shop to support her study. She wants to be self-reliant.
Jamuna Tithung wanted to continue her study but she did not have money. She was then currently doing her 10+2 in Hetauda. She approached NEST for financial support and she received the loan. She started weaving, fabric painting with the help of micro-credit loan she received .About 6 months later now she has became an employee of District education office as a resource person for disabled/physically challenged student. She has returned all the amount taken as loan.
NEST has also supported Umesh Raut who is visually impaired, to start a food shop in Hetauda. Now he earns his own school fee and is able to improve his own future. Watch how the microcredit programme supported Umesh Raut.

All the above students approached NEST for financial support after hearing about NEST support programme. With the financial support from ICFON, the Netherlands, NEST has been supporting children and youths with different abilities, Dalit and ethnic communities to their education. Instead of sponsoring the children, NEST provides loans to the children and they also receive skills and training to run micro business.
By donating $700 to Children with disability education fund can ensure that a child with disability have an opportunity to attend college or university for higher education or have vocational skills and start a micro-business to generate income to support the cost of their study.
